Job Overview 

Sequel Med Tech is seeking a Staff Software Test Engineer to support our growing portfolio of digital health products and systems. As our first dedicated SDET, you will guide the testing strategy for the product team by familiarizing yourself with the end-to-end system flow and user journeys and then developing and maintaining our test plans. You will also serve as the subject matter expert to support our team of full-stack engineers in developing their automated tests and will review and approve delivered features to ensure testing completeness. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience with both manual and automated testing strategies and will know how to communicate effectively with engineers, product leaders, and Quality stakeholders. They will be hands-on and excited to build great patient-, caregiver-, and clinician-facing products to support a rapidly growing medical devices startup. If you value shared ownership and accountability, individual and team empowerment, and a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, then this is the job for you.  

Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties 
Oversee day to day testing of the frontend and backend components. This includes: 

  • Understanding the end-to-end flow of each component and the system as a whole. 
  • Writing and maintaining test plans. 
  • Maintain understanding of test coverage and potential gaps through all methods of testing. 
  • Manual testing and approval of frontend and backend features. 
  • Review stories for completeness and adherence to test coverage. 
  • Work closely with the engineering team, communicating needs of the test suites and proposing solutions to fill needs. 
  • Partner with Product Management and Quality to ensure testing strategies align with our regulatory and compliance obligations. 

Minimum Requirements 

  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. 
  • 6+ years’ experience in software industry 
  • Medical device or other regulated industry experience preferred. 
  • 3+ years’ experience with automated and technical verification  

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to create and maintain test plans that effectively communicate the status and needs of the testing suite to engineers, product manager, and Quality partners.  
  • Broad experience with a range of test approaches and principles, what types of tests to use, when, and a general understanding of how. 
  • Familiarity with frontend and backend development principles.  
  • Familiarity with Javascript/Typescript and Golang. 
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Gitlab CI is a plus) and DevSecOps processes. 
  • Experience manual testing according to requirements and test plans with an attention to detail. 
  • Experience with libraries (Cypress, Playwright, Jest, k6, etc) 
  • Experience end to end testing through hardware level, service layers, and forward-facing UIs (mobile app and web interfaces)
