Staff Digital Product Designer
About Sequel
Sequel Med Tech is an early-stage company developing the next generation of precision drug delivery devices.
Job Overview
Sequel Med Tech is seeking an experienced digital Product Designer to support the evolution of the digital experience across our customer-facing software products. The successful candidate will be an experienced creative team member with a depth of healthcare experience and a passion for bringing new digital experiences to life. You will partner closely with the Product Management team to understand and articulate the vision and roadmap, serve as the interface between the product team and other user-facing digital teams like Digital Training, Customer Care, and DTP/DTC marketing to design a consistent digital experience, and then work (virtually) side-by-side with the Engineering team to execute that strategy in an agile, iterative manner. If you value shared ownership and accountability, individual and team empowerment, and a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, then this is the job for you.
Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Deeply understand our users through a combination of primary and secondary user research.
- Serve as the voice of the user.
- Support the Principal Product Designer in setting design standards and tone.
- Lead the design process for one or more products from concept to launch and continuous improvement.
- Ensure quality and accessibility in delivered products.
- Collaborate with other designers to develop best-in-class design practices to support a rapidly growing organization.
- Work (virtually) side-by-side with other members of the product team to advocate for user needs throughout the software product development lifecycle.
Minimum Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in product design with a minimum:
- 5 years’ experience in digital product design.
- 5 years’ experience in healthcare, including both patient- and clinician-facing products.
- 3 years’ experience operating on an agile product team.
- Bachelor’s degree in design or a related field, or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate design concepts and approaches to senior leadership and peers.
- Strong user research and usability experience across multiple modalities including observational, moderated, and unmoderated approaches.
- Experience designing, executing, and reporting on both formative and evaluative user research.
- Proficiency with design and prototyping skills with a proven ability to adopt new tools and continuously learn in an evolving industry.
- Experience with presenting complex concepts and information to diverse users in the healthcare space, including patients, caregivers, and clinicians.
- Experience with diabetes is a plus.
- Fluency in agile development practices with a demonstrated ability to walk-the-walk honing practices through continuous improvement over fixed practices and procedures.
- Experience using a lean startup approach to deliver user value quickly.
- Willingness to challenge assumptions over sticking to the status quo.
- Experience collaborating with functional (Clinical, Marketing, etc.) partners over navigating functional gatekeepers.
- Bias towards active collaboration over working in silos and throwing over the wall.
- Comfort working in and fostering a balanced team culture that values expert decision makers with cross-functional input over decision by fiat or design by committee.
